You wouldn’t be shocked by the outcome, and it was as biased as it gets. Although the toss is a major factor in Galle, Australia has barely lost since taking the trophy. Before the second Test, which begins on the sixth, they will return with greater assurance. In order to even the series, Sri Lanka would likely need to examine some of their bowling and batting shortcomings. Covering the first Test has been a lot of fun, and on the sixth, we’ll be back for more action. Cheers and good-bye for now.
Steve Smith, the captain
Australia worked out nicely. I thought we had a great start to the game. It was properly set up by Travis and Usman. The way Usman batted and applied pressure on the bowlers was outstanding. We were able to bowl twice to get 650. Both Starc and the spinners performed admirably. As it continued, the wicket split apart. The score didn’t accurately reflect its nature on the first day. I felt we batted really effectively, but it was still a little sticky.
The benefit of having three spinners is that you can always keep someone fresh, and they performed incredibly well together. Depending on the surface, we have some excellent quick bowlers as well. On this wicket, three spinners performed admirably. I never imagined that I would score that many runs. It was a dream to play just one test for Australia. It is a dream come true to play 100 and score 10,000 runs.
We had our opportunities (in the field – missed reviews and catches) but we didn’t take them. We need to play well against a champion side, they’re the best team, and we’ll have to bring up our A-game in the next Test. Dhananjaya de Silva | Sri Lanka captain: Chasing 600+ runs isn’t easy in these conditions. The wicket wasn’t hard, the offball was turning, and the batters should put their hands up, make big runs, and bat well under pressure.
Usman Khawaja, The match’s MVP: I’m really appreciative of the opportunity to represent Australia in cricket. It’s good to contribute and get some runs. Galle is always a tough spot for us. It’s good to win. We prevailed 3-1. You want to score every time in this team game, but it’s not always feasible. Sometimes someone else scores and you don’t. was quite pleased with the 3-1 victory over India. I have plans of my own. I’ve been to Sri Lanka five times. There are certain things I’m glad to get out of and some things I’m not; I believe I’ve made every mistake I could have.

Today, however, things were different; after returning to the game at 136 for 5, the hosts lost eight wickets in the first session. They had to follow-on after bowing out for 165 in the first essay, and they barely improved in the second dig. There were numerous middle-order starts, but none of them went above Angelo Mathews’ 41. The openers fell cheaply. It was never going to be enough, and only some late-game fireworks from Jeffrey Vandersay got them over the 200-run threshold. He scored his first Test fifty, although he was removed last, Matthew Kuhnemann’s ninth Test dismissal.
Everyone else lost because the guests’ bowling was so well-executed. They have a chance to win the series 2-0 next week, but they won’t lose it now. This performance has been detrimental to Sri Lanka, and they will need to improve their preparations for the Test here in Galle next week.
15:15 IST, 09:45 GMT, and 15:15 Local Time: Since the replacement captain, Stebve Smith, won the toss and chose to bat first four days ago, everything has been one-sided. Usman Khawaja recorded his first double-hundred, making the best of the flat surface without having to face Jasprit Bumrah. Travis Head, who started this Test, had previously provided the momentum with a fast fifty, an innings that effectively held Sri Lanka behind. Steve Smith made a hundred for himself after entering the game with 9999 Test runs and finishing the single that made him a member of the League of Legends.
Josh Inglis, who made his debut after his discharge, appeared to be a man in a rush to make a quick hundred for himself. As a result, Australia amassed 654 before making their announcement. The hosts subsequently faltered on the second day and much more on the third, but they appeared to have escaped when the rain arrived during lunch.
