Review of the Gigabyte AORUS 15 BSF: Design, Display, and I/O

The Gigabyte AORUS 15 BSF has a subtle metal construction.
There are four 15.6-inch LCD display options available for it.

The AORUS 15 features a relatively understated appearance, to the point that some players would find it monotonous. Every surface of the laptop is matte black and other than the plastic bezels around the screen, it is entirely made of metal, adding to its premium appearance and smudge-gathering properties.

To keep gamers pleased, it has RGB lights on the hinge and beneath the keyboard. The AORUS 15 has diagonal lines all over its body to set it apart from other gaming laptops, including under the RGB hinge, above the keyboard in the form of vents, and below the keyboard on the trackpad.

Completes the appearance is a reflecting AORUS logo. With a weight of 2.7 kilograms, this laptop is not intended to be nor is it a portable gaming machine.

The AORUS’s potent internals produce hot air, which is circulated through six vents. These are dispersed evenly along the sides, back, and bottom of the laptop.

The location of the ports here impressed us. The crucial I/O options are kept to the side, but they are not overly crowded. Thus, a headphone/mic combination port and one USB 3.2 Type-A port are located on the left side. With two additional Type-A connections and a USB 3.2 Type-C port, it is also fairly tidy.

The RJ45 Ethernet, charging, USB Type-C/Thunderbolt, full-sized HDMI 2.1, and mini DisplayPort connections are all located on the back of the laptop, along with charging connectors for other devices.

Despite lacking a numpad, the chiclet-style keyboard provides incredibly enjoyable travel and feedback. The positioning of the Home, Page Up/Down, and End keys, which were the same size as the other keys and were situated adjacent to the arrow keys, enter, and Backspace, struck us as odd.

We made a lot of mistakes as a result of the lack of sensory clues. We are still getting used to where they are.

The keyboard’s per-key macro functionality makes it useful for video producers and MOBA fans, who will appreciate how customizable it is.

The trackpad is ordinary in size and positioned in the middle, which is unusual for Windows gaming laptops. We wouldn’t trust it for much more than the occasional swipe and drag on the screen, though. It would be sinful for you to purchase this gaming laptop without a mouse!

There are several other LCD panel options available for the AORUS 15, but the one we got has a QHD resolution and refreshes at 165 Hz. It measures more than 15.6 inches diagonally and features the standard 16:9 aspect ratio. Although Gigabyte hasn’t specifically indicated using a mini-LED screen in this instance, the display can be bright, colorful, and have good contrast. And it’s fantastic for playing on.

You can choose higher setups, but if you’re obsessive about pixels, we’d recommend going with this or the grade above it, which has FHD resolution and 240Hz refresh rate.

The top-tier 360Hz panel is not recommended because it only has sRGB coverage and the price you’ll have to pay does not offset the benefits of higher refresh rates.

Another odd instance of bottom-firing speakers that we’re not entirely sure what to make of. After getting rid of the Numpad, there is a tonne of room around the keyboard; why not put the speakers there? Nevertheless, because there isn’t enough room for them to spread the audio around, the speakers can grow loud but lack depth.

Hardware, performance, and battery of the Gigabyte AORUS 15 BSF

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 graphics and an Intel Core i7 13700H processor were installed in our AORUS 15 computer.
It functions well under constant loads.

Our specific AORUS 15 unit was powered by a 13th-generation Intel Core i7 13700H with Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 graphics. The image above outlines the specifics down to the last detail.

The AORUS 15 is more than capable of completing resource-intensive tasks quickly. As can be seen in the table below, it handled the majority of triple-A titles and benchmarks with ease. It all comes down to performance under continuous loads, and that’s where the AORUS excels, as the majority of laptops can attain excellent frame rates at this price.

We didn’t notice any performance degradation across a three-hour gaming session, and the exhaust temps were primarily under 60 degrees.

With the help of the Gigabyte Control Centre Utility, you may adjust the GPU speeds. Although this software is the epitome of simplicity, it may be a little too simplistic. For instance, it cannot be resized, making it difficult to use for those with weak vision.

Then, you lose the atomic-level control over GPU output that the majority of other gaming laptops provide. There are five GPU boost options available instead: Creator, Turbo, Gaming, Meeting, and Power Saving Silence mode. Gigabyte also has AI Boost mode, which switches automatically if you don’t want to deal with the hassle.

This AI mode makes your laptop sound like a prima donna by increasing the fan speed by a few notches and taking roughly a minute to reach the highest setting. But even with relatively strong fan noise, the AORUS 15 was able to quickly disperse the heat produced by demanding workloads.

For some reason, like a cranky child, our specific machine would frequently struggle to load up simple apps like the Steam client or even react to Start menu queries.

With a battery life of an hour, the AORUS 15 lives up to its reputation as a strong gaming machine. Although this is typical of most gaming laptops, the AMD-powered ASUS TUF Gaming A15 has shown that high-end specifications shouldn’t be accompanied by poor battery life.

Fortunately, the included 240W charging brick, which you can also use to curl your biceps, charges it swiftly in under two hours.

Examen: Gigabyte AORUS 15 BSF

The effort made by Gigabyte to develop a powerful computer for gamers and creators is successful. It features a great variety of I/O options and looks the part. It offers decent expandability and a great, sharp display. Even while the keyboard has a few flaws and the companion software seems somewhat constrained, overall performance is remarkable.

That is unless you consider it’s asking price of Rs 1,79,599.

For $30k less, you can get your hands on the fully loaded ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (Review), which also has the RTX 4070 installed and is significantly lighter and more battery-efficient. During the sales season, you might be able to obtain a better offer, but right now, it seems a little expensive.

Frequently Asked Questions :

Is the Gigabyte Aorus 15G a good gaming laptop?

It’s rare that I review a legitimately fast gaming laptop like the Gigabyte Aorus 15G. I mostly review sub-$1,000 gaming laptops that are fast for their low prices. They rarely break 60 frames per second with AAA games set to high at 1080p. The components in the $2,299 Aorus 15G let you hit closer to 100fps.

How much does an Aorus 15G cost?

The Aorus 15G I tested costs $2,199 and is outfitted with an Intel Core i7-10875H processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super GPU with 8GB of VRAM, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and a 1080p, 240Hz display. If you’re looking to save some money, the base model costs $1,899 and drops you down to an RTX 2060 GPU.

Is the Aorus 15G better than the MSI gs66 stealth?

The extra cooling on offer does mean that the Aorus 15G produced better figures in the CPU tests than the new MSI GS66 Stealth with an RTX 3080 16GB, even though both machines have the exact same CPU. The highest temperature seen in the testing of 89°C was also 11°C lower than the more-expensive MSI machine.
